The Near Death Experience of Christopher Hitchens

from The Quantum Orchestra by Peri Urban

/

about

I had some time in A&E and recorded the sounds around me.

I wonder what would happen if a righteous man discovered that everything he believed in for all those years was dead wrong? What would he do if he was confronted by the ironic certainty that the oblivion he'd been banking on taking him after death was not there? That the life we are now living is the eternal life we thought we would never have?

Would he dismiss the revelations as delusional? Or would he take up the challenge of showing the world a different truth?

In the end Hitchens ends up back where he started, doomed to repeat his mistakes.

Minds have been changed beyond recognition by accidents and illness, psychedelic drugs and some forms of meditation. They can all trigger a connection to something we are only just beginning to understand.

It is of us and we are of it, but what we are is mostly smoke and mirrors, ciphers for a play of energies that lie at the very core of our being - energies that quantum scientist are measuring with increasing accuracy.

Matter and energy in two places at once? Sometimes nowhere at all.

All of this opened up to Christopher Hitchens, but he kept it to himself.
