about

Recorded between June and November 2017 in East Lothian, Scotland.

To more deeply appreciate this music, it may help to know that -

Rhythm = reality [red]
Harmony = quantum [green]
Melody = consciousness [blue]

Voice = ego
Production, engineering and sound = perspective

The Orchestrated Objective Reality (Orch-OR) hypothesis of Stuart Hameroff and Roger Penrose proposes that human consciousness is found within molecular structures called microtubules which exist inside neurons, and that consciousness arises from deeper scale quantum events.

The tracks on this album explore states of consciousness and subjective experience by means of the moment by moment interactions between rhythm (consensual reality), harmony (the quantum world) and melody (consciousness), in what is termed the RHM matrix. The narratives that emerge will as much belong to the listener as to the author. Some minds or states of being or moments in time contain constructed melodies, others staccato or fractured melodies, some no melodies at all.

Where voices appear the ego is represented, with the perspective the ego enjoys being related to its four dimensional location within the RHM matrix, sometimes nearer reality than the quantum, sometimes soaring with pure consciousness and so on.

Each instrument or sound can be placed in the RHM matrix, with sounds having no pitch (such as drums and percussion) residing within consensual reality, chordal sounds and groups of harmony being within the quantum world, and melodies representing consciousness and experience.

The album artwork shows a Venn diagram where the three elements of the RHM Matrix overlap, but the elements would be better described as spheres, with each momentary perspective location (ego) represented by a three dimensional timeline that moves as each piece of music progresses from beginning to end.

The perspective belongs to the listener, and each will be unique.
